This wedding at Century Barn was a little different for me because I was both the couple’s wedding photographer and their silk flower rental provider. I’ve had the opportunity to work at many wedding venues over the years, and Century Barn is honestly one of my favourites. The property has a beautiful, relaxed feeling, with a charming barn, well-kept grounds, and plenty of space for guests to enjoy the day.
One of the things I really appreciated about working with silk flowers for this wedding was how easy the morning setup was. I was able to centre the urn arrangements on each table, get the ceremony flowers in place, and drop off the personal flowers to the bride and groom’s suites before moving into photography for the rest of the day. It made the transition between florist and photographer surprisingly smooth. The day was also quite hot, but unlike fresh flowers, the silk flowers didn’t wilt in the heat, which was definitely a benefit during a long summer wedding day.
The couple held their ceremony outdoors beside the barn in a beautiful spot on the property. The ceremony area was partially shaded by the barn, which helped keep everyone a little more comfortable, and the large wooden arch created a beautiful focal point for the ceremony. I supplied the arch flowers as part of the couple’s silk flower rentals, and I loved how they looked against the natural wood and surrounding grounds.
While the barn itself is absolutely beautiful, it did get quite hot during the day. Large fans were running to help circulate the air, but they were also fairly loud inside the barn. At times, guests would step outside for a break and some fresh air. It’s something I would keep in mind when planning a summer wedding, although the beautiful outdoor spaces around the property give guests plenty of places to step away and enjoy the grounds.
One thing I especially loved about this venue was the staff. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and the wedding coordinator was wonderful to work with throughout the day. She kept me in the loop, was easy to communicate with, and helped make sure the day ran smoothly. The grounds were also beautifully maintained, and because the venue hosts just one wedding per day, the entire property felt like it belonged to the couple and their guests.
Century Barn is in a more remote location, which is part of its charm, but it does require a little extra planning. Wi-Fi and cell service can be limited, so I would definitely recommend downloading any music, files, playlists, or other important information before arriving at the venue. It’s also worth thinking ahead about how guests will get home afterward, whether that means arranging transportation back to a hotel, organizing a shuttle, or making sure everyone has a designated driver.
Overall, Century Barn is one of my favourite wedding venues I’ve worked at. The beautiful barn, outdoor ceremony spaces, well-kept grounds, friendly staff, and one-wedding-per-day approach make it feel relaxed and special. For couples who love a rustic, countryside wedding and don’t mind being a little farther outside the city, I think it’s a beautiful place to celebrate.
