This is still one of the largest weddings I've worked on to date. The couple was planning a very high-end, elaborate wedding at Château Le Jardin, and they chose to rent their wedding flowers from me. The floral design was centred around dusty pinks and whites, with enormous, dramatic centrepieces that really suited the scale of the celebration. The couple came in for several studio visits beforehand so we could look at samples, go over the colour palette and make sure the flowers and arrangements were exactly what they had envisioned. With a wedding this large, there were a lot of moving pieces, so having that time together before the wedding was especially helpful.
I was there for the entire wedding day to assist with setup, move décor and handle teardown. It ended up being a pretty hectic morning. The caterers were running behind getting the linens onto the tables, so I jumped in and helped them get everything covered and ready while the rest of the setup continued around us. There were also a lot of last-minute details that needed attention, including cutting out table name cards and setting them up on the greeting table. I also helped pin on the boutonnieres and worked through the various little jobs that inevitably come up when you're involved in a large wedding from start to finish.
Along with the huge centrepieces, I supplied flowers for the chuppah and floral pieces along the ceremony aisle. Once everything was in place, the scale of the room really came through. The dusty pink and white flowers filled the reception space without feeling out of place, and the large arrangements made sense for such an elaborate celebration. Château Le Jardin has the kind of grand, polished atmosphere where a smaller floral design could easily get lost, so going big with the centrepieces was the right choice for this wedding.
It was a cool September day, which made being outside for some of the setup and moving décor around much more comfortable than working through a hot summer wedding. The food was also excellent, which was a nice perk after such a busy day! By the end of the evening, I was back at it for teardown and helping move everything out. It was definitely a long wedding day, but being there from the first setup tasks through the final cleanup gave me a behind-the-scenes look at just how much goes into producing a large, high-end wedding.
This wedding is a good example of what I loved about offering full-service silk flower rentals. I wasn't simply dropping off a box of flowers and leaving—the couple had several opportunities to see the flowers ahead of time, I was there to help bring the entire floral design together on the wedding day, and I stayed through teardown. For a large wedding with elaborate décor and a lot of moving parts, having the flowers handled from start to finish made one part of the day a little easier for the couple.
