An Honest Review of the Century Barn Wedding Venue

An Honest Review of the Century Barn Wedding Venue

Nestled in Canvan, Ontario, the Century Barn is a stunning spot for private weddings and events. With its rolling hills, beautiful gardens, and a barn that balances rustic charm with modern updates, it immediately feels special. I had the privilege of doing both flowers and photography for a couple who tied the knot here in July 2023, and I wanted to share my honest take on the venue from a vendor’s perspective.

Why I Loved Century Barn

There’s so much to rave about with this venue—it’s honestly hard to pick where to start. Here are the highlights that really stood out to me:

A Bridal Suite That Wows
The renovated bridal suite inside the barn is absolutely gorgeous—and huge! It comes with a large bathroom, rustic white furniture, plenty of mirrors, and tons of natural light streaming in through the windows. It’s perfect for those classic bridal prep shots. While it did get warm at times, there’s an air conditioning unit tucked into one corner that helps keep things comfortable.

Staff Who Make Everything Seamless
Hands down, the team at Century Barn is some of the most organized, kind, and patient staff I’ve ever worked with. The coordinator sent over the wedding timeline a week in advance, the decor was flawlessly moved and set up throughout the evening, and the couple was always taken care of. Honestly, it felt like a team of little fairies were working behind the scenes to keep everything flowing perfectly.

Breathtaking Grounds
The property itself is immaculately maintained. Those rolling hills? Absolutely perfect for golden hour photos. The outdoor ceremony space is framed by gorgeous gardens, and every corner of the grounds feels picture-ready.

Plumbing (Yes, Really!)
One thing that surprised me in a barn venue was the plumbing. Century Barn has a quaint little outbuilding with private stalls that are clean, fully functional, and well-kept—no portable toilets needed. It was such a relief for both guests and vendors!

Private, Intimate Setting
I loved that this venue is exclusively yours for the day. Some venues try to host multiple weddings at once, which can feel hectic. Century Barn allows a family to have the entire property to themselves, giving the day an intimate, personal feel.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

No venue is perfect, so here are a few minor considerations I noticed:

Temperature & Humidity
Our July wedding was pretty hot and humid, and the barn itself can trap heat. While there were fans running, they mostly circulated the warm air. Guests naturally took breaks outside in the shaded areas, which helped. If you’re planning a summer wedding here, make sure your guests have plenty of water and access to cooler spots.

Cell Reception Can Be Spotty
Because the barn is in a more rural area, cell phone reception isn’t reliable. DJs, streaming music, or last-minute digital instructions should be pre-downloaded or printed to avoid any hiccups.

Transportation Considerations
Since it’s a bit off the beaten path, guests will need to plan rides home. Taxis may take around 40 minutes to arrive, and arranging a shuttle might be an added cost, so give your guests plenty of notice.

Evening Lighting
The barn gets quite dark after sunset. For photography, this meant I relied on artificial lighting to capture speeches and dancing. With an experienced photographer, however, your photos will still come out beautifully throughout the night.

Final Thoughts

From the rolling hills and gorgeous ceremony gardens to the thoughtful staff and beautiful barn, Century Barn is a standout choice for a rustic wedding. As long as you plan for summer heat, give guests a heads-up about transportation, and work with a professional photographer for evening shots, this venue truly delivers an unforgettable wedding day. I wholeheartedly recommend it to any couple looking for a private, charming, and picturesque setting.
