I had the honour of being the florist for a stunning June 2023 wedding at the Cambridge Mill, and I left with a mix of awe and insight. The couple was celebrating with 160 guests, holding their ceremony in the charming Pavilion, followed by cocktail hour and a reception in the Solarium and Falls Room. The Beauty of Cambridge Mill
Cambridge Mill sits on the Grand River, offering gorgeous views of a quaint waterfall right in the heart of Cambridge, Ontario. The ceremony space is filled with natural light, making it a dream for photographers, and the venue itself is filled with unique nooks and corners perfect for capturing special moments. Beyond the aesthetic, the fact that the Mill runs a full-time restaurant adds a level of culinary polish—you can expect top-tier food, and the couple appreciated that their guests could select meals on the night of the wedding rather than choosing weeks in advance. For couples with a flexible budget, the venue is undoubtedly a visual and gastronomic treat.
A Few Downsides to Consider
While Cambridge Mill is undeniably beautiful, there are some important factors to weigh if you’re considering it for your own wedding. One of the most significant is how the venue schedules events. On the day of the wedding I attended, the couple’s ceremony in the Pavilion overlapped with preparations for other weddings. I was surprised to learn that the venue can host up to three weddings in a single day, and back-to-back ceremonies in the same Pavilion are standard. As soon as our ceremony ended, we had to begin dismantling decor while the next wedding’s team was already arriving. For a couple hoping for a more intimate experience, this “assembly line” approach can feel impersonal.
Another consideration is privacy. As a florist, I typically set up early in the morning. Between 10 a.m. and noon, while I arranged flowers in the ceremony and reception spaces, I counted over seven separate tours walking through. While it’s understandable that the venue wants to showcase its spaces, it left very little privacy for the couple, their families, or vendors. Even scheduling can feel tight; the couple I worked with had to hold their rehearsal on Thursday night because the Mill was hosting three weddings the Friday evening before.
And finally, the cost is not insignificant. Cambridge Mill is beautiful, but a large wedding here comes with a premium price tag.
Who Should Consider Cambridge Mill
If your wedding vision prioritizes gorgeous views, natural light, and exceptional food, and you have a larger budget, Cambridge Mill is worth exploring. The venue offers a unique combination of rustic charm and modern elegance that’s hard to beat in the Toronto and Cambridge area. That said, if you’re looking for a more private, personalized experience without the “assembly line” feel, you might want to consider less in-demand venues nearby.
